many things in this world find neither an answer nor a proper e_planation. for e_ample, why should two become a couple among the billions of people on earth? why don’t they love each other even though they live together everyday, and yet one of them falls in love with someone else at the first sight? why do the members of a family quarrel daily but still stay unhappily together? why can’t they get married in spite of the fact that they are a perfect match to each other? why should one toil so much for the other? why should the love-infatuated always be deserted by the heartless?.....

people remain puzzled in spite of their great effort to understand the endless questions, so they invented the all-embracing word---"predestination". in order to be more precise, different combinations were derived from it: love predestination, sinful predestination, evil predestination, and kind predestination etc., hence we have the sayings like: "predestination will definitely bring you together despite the great distance while without predestination, you’ll never know each other even though you are standing fact to face" "a distant couple is tied up with the thread of predestination" and even the phrases and e_pressions like "the god of marriage", "predestination without luck", "luck without predestination", "coming across each other is a kind of predestination", "enemies are bound to meet on a narrow road", "they shall not marry each other unless they are predestined lovers". if people still can not find answers, they turn to "reincarnation" for help. lin daiyu is always in tears just for repaying for the water jia baoyu had given her when she was a plant in her previous life ina dream of the red mansions.

in fact, the so-called "predestination" is often a kind of coincidence or chance encounter, even a kind of accident. if you don’t meet this person, you’ll surely meet some one else. but people insist on adding some colors of emotions or superstition, thus generating various religious factions, the main theories of which are no more than that of "reincarnation", "heaven and hell" and "the ever-lasting soul" etc.

but does anyone know anything about his previous life or his after life? what could he do even if he knew them? if he can’t grasp the present life, what’s the benefit of commenting on the visionary after life? giving up today is the same as giving up tomorrow, for they are closely connected. how absurd it is to work like the horse or cattle in the present life in order to be above others in the ne_t life.

have you ever seen emperor qinshihuang reincarnate? have you ever heard of emperor wudi of the han dynasty going into another life? where is now monk _uanzang of the tang dynasty (what we know is the big wild goose pagoda)? where is the monkey king (the flower and fruit mountain does e_ist, though)? and where can we find those great emperors such as yao, shun yu and the influential philosophers like confucius, laozi and zhuangzi?

how many heavens do we find? are they also divided into the oriental and the occidental world? is god a chinese or westerner? which is the greatest religion among buddhism, daoism, christianity, catholicity and islamism? all religions advocate doing good deeds and not killing, but why do they keep contending against each other, even fighting and killing among themselves? is the paradise the same one in all religions? there’s only one sun in the sky, and there should be only one emperor in a country, but do all religions believe in the same god, or do they have different gods of their own? if all of us e_pected god’s help, wouldn’t god be too busy and too tired?

does god respect science? if not, why does he allow computers and telecommunications to run rampant? if it is god who created human beings, then doesn’t he feel out of control of what the human being are doing now (the nuclear weapons and bio-chemical weapons, etc.)?

we human beings have an origin, and is it the same with god? does god get married? is god hereditary, or is it the same ever-lasting one?

we have all those questions but who can answer them?.

predestination needs us to strive for; friendship needs us to maintain; good will needs us to treasure and future needs us to create. there is no savior, nor goddess of mercy who once saved people in the past but cannot do anything to help the people at the present. the world is developing too fast.

people have to work together and associate with each other. talking about predestination, it’s just a kind of e_planation about what has happened, and i’m afraid nobody can predict it before hand. from ancient times till the 1980’s, once getting married, the couple had to stick to each other for their whole life. can we say it is because of their life-long predestination? it is just because of the marriage system. in the western countries, life-long marriage is rare. can we say it is because their predestination makes it so? it is actually the result of human nature. the color of love could be attached to predestination, but not the color of superstition.

predestination is a lovely word which we should treasure and respect. in the present world, we should always follow the win-win or multi-win policy, instead of being single-handed. in order to achieve success, we must gain mass support instead of indulging in self-admiration. we might as well call the communication, the cooperation, the common concerns and the common aspirations of human beings "predestination".

hi, everybody. on behalf of all the obamas – michelle, malia, sasha, bo, and the newest member of our family, sunny – i want to wish you a happy and healthy thanksgiving.

we’ll be spending today just like many of you – sitting down with family and friends to eat some good food, tell stories, watch a little football, and most importantly, count our blessings.

and as americans, we have so much to be thankful for.

we give thanks for the men and women who set sail for this land nearly four centuries ago, risking everything for the chance at a better life – and the people who were already here, our native american brothers and sisters, for their generosity during that first thanksgiving.

we give thanks for the generations who followed – people of all races and religions, who arrived here from every country on earth and worked to build something better for themselves and for us.

we give thanks for all our men and women in uniform – and for their families, who are surely missing them very much today. we’re grateful for their sacrifice too.

we give thanks for the freedoms they defend – the freedom to think what we want and say what we think, to worship according to our own beliefs, to choose our leaders and, yes, criticize them without punishment. people around the world are fighting and even dying for their chance at these freedoms. we stand with them in that struggle, and we give thanks for being free.

and we give thanks to everyone who’s doing their part to make the united states a better, more compassionate nation – who spend their thanksgiving volunteering at a soup kitchen, or joining a service project, or bringing food and cheer to a lonely neighbor. that big-hearted generosity is a central part of our american character. we believe in lending a hand to folks who need it. we believe in pitching in to solve problems even if they aren’t our problems. and that’s not a one-day-a-year belief. it’s part of the fabric of our nation.

and we remember that many americans need that helping hand right now. americans who’ve lost their jobs and can’t get a new one through no fault of their own. americans who’ve been trapped in poverty and just need that helping hand to climb out. citizens whose prayers and hopes move us to act.

we are a people who are greater together than we are on our own. that’s what today is about. that’s what every day should be about. no matter our differences, we’re all part of one american family. we are each other’s keeper. we are one nation, under god. that core tenet of our american e_perience has guided us from the earliest days of our founding – and it will guide us to a future that’s even brighter than today.

thank you, god bless you, and from my family to yours, happy thanksgiving.

facing this audience on the stage, i have the e_citing feeling of participating in the march of history, for what we are facing today is more than a mere competition or contest. it is an assembly of some of china’s most talented and motivated people, representatives of a younger generation that are preparing themselves for the coming of a new century.

i’m grateful that i’ve been given this opportunity, at such a historic moment, to stand here as a spokesman of my generation and to take a serious look back at the past ×× years, a crucial period for every one of us and for this nation as well.

though it is only within my power to tell about my personal e_perience, and only a tiny fragment of it at that, it still represents, i believe, the root of a spirit which has been essential to me and to all the people bred by the past ×× years.

in my elementary years, there was a little girl in the class who worked very hard but somehow could never do satisfactorily in her lessons.

the teacher asked me to help her, and it was obvious that she e_pected a lot from me. but as a young boy, restless, thoughtless, i always tried to evade her so as to get more time to enjoy myself.

one day before the final e_am, she came up to me and said, "could you please e_plain t

i was about eight or nine years old at that time, but in a way it was the very starting point of my life, for i began to understand the word "responsibility" and to learn to always do my duties faithfully and devotedly, for the implications of that sacred word has dawned on me: the mutual need and trust of people, the co-operation and inter-reliance which are the very foundation of human society.

later in my life, i continued to e_perience many failures. but never again did i feel that regret which struck me at the death of the girl, for it makes my heart satisfied to think that i have always

new ideas, new information, new technologies. people can talk with each other from any corner of the earth in a matter of seconds. society is becoming more competitive.

words like individuality and creativity are getting more emphasis and more people are rewarded for their hard work and efforts. such is the era in which this generation ,grows and matures.

such is the era in which this generation will take over the nation from our fathers and learn to run it. yet in the meantime, many problems still e_ist.

we learn that crimes take place in broad daylight with crowds of people looking on and not assisting. we hear that there are still about 1 million children in this country who can’t even afford to go to elementary schools while enormous sums of money are being squandered away on dinner parties and lu_ury cars.

such an era, therefore, determines that we are a generation with a keener sense of competition and efficiency and a greater readiness to think critically and act creatively.

such an era, furthermore, demands, that we are a generation with a clear perception of our historical responsibility and an aggressive will to take action and solve the problems. history has long been preparing these qualities in this generation and it is now calling us forward to give testimony to our patriotism and heroism towards this nation and all humanity.

standing here now, i think of the past ×× years of my life as an ordinary student. probably i’ll be an ordinary man for the rest of my life. but this doesn’t discourage me any, for i know that with my sense of responsibility and devoted efforts to always strive, for the best, it’s going to be a meaningful and worthwhile life that i will be living.

hom will be remembered by posterity. but that doesn’t discourage us any, because we know that the world watches, the world listens, the world is waiting to see where this nation will be heading in a time of rich opportunities and fierce competition.

i can’t ever forget that little girl in my class who couldn’t had the same opportunities as any of us here to enjoy a wonderful life today and a hopeful world tomorrow.

it is the sacred responsibility of this generation to face up to the challenges of the new century and to devote our sweat and blood, our wisdom and passion, to the historic cause of making this nation a greater and happier land for every one of us.

we are not going to evade that responsibility. we are going to let people down. and people, far and near, will hear of us. frost will be brought to their backbones and tears to their eyes when our stories are told and retold, so let us go forth, my fellow members of this luckily chosen generation, and meet the new century in victory and glory.

no imagination, no creativity

dear teachers and students:

good morning / afternoon / evening! my name is liu zi yuan. the title of my speech is the relationship between creativity and imagination.

there is no creativity without imagination. with the development of the society, creativity becomes more and more important. people could not satisfy with ordinary life. so we need creativity to meet their requirements. we can see significance of the creativity from an e_ample. the smart phone—iphone spread all over the world. that was the creativity of the apple inc. it is obvious that it will produce a bigger profit than common manufacturing. but, hao can we acquire creativity?

i think the creativity roots in imagination. albert einstein said that imagination is important than knowledge. because we should creative a thing that is never appeared, we need to image. use all the things and information around us to think and then go to achieve it. without the imagination of the wright brothers , human could not complete the flying dreams. without the imagination of the ale_ander graham bell, we could not hear the voice from a distance. if the creativity can make the human progress, imagination will be the road to success. where the imagination come from? knowledge ? e_perience ? practice? i consider that all of them are indispensable. it is often said that knowledge is power. so we should empower ourselves with knowledge. after that we need to obtain e_perience form. practice. these are the basis, and we must strengthen them to e_tend our imagination.

as contemporary college students, we must shoulder the responsibility of the future of our motherland. what we need is not only the knowledge of the past, but also is the innovation of a new field. our thought can not be bound by the old things. we should understand that an e_cellent nation is always full of creativity. so we must promote our imagination. there is no creativity without imagination. that’s all, thank you!

(2)。

you may observe, that amongst all the great and worthy persons (whereof the memory remaineth, either ancient or recent) there is not one, that hath been transported to the mad degree of love: which shows that great spirits, and great business, do keep out this weak passion. you must e_cept, nevertheless, marcus antonius, the half partner of the empire of rome, and appius claudius, the decemvir and lawgiver; whereof the former was indeed a voluptuous man, and inordinate; but the latter was an austere and wise man: and therefore it seems (though rarely) that love can find entrance, not only into an open heart, but also into a heart well fortified, if watch be not well kept.

it is a poor saying of epicurus, satis magnum alter alteri theatrum sumus; as if man, made for the contemplation of heaven, and all noble objects, should do nothing but kneel before a little idol, and make himself a subject, though not of the mouth (as beasts are), yet of the eye; which was given him for higher purposes.

it is a strange thing, to note the e_cess of this passion, and how it braves the nature, and value of things, by this; that the speaking in a perpetual hyperbole, is comely in nothing but in love. neither is it merely in the phrase; for whereas it hath been well said, that the arch-flatterer, with whom all the petty flatterers have intelligence, is a man’s self; certainly the lover is more. for there was never proud man thought so absurdly well of himself, as the lover doth of the person loved; and therefore it was well said, that it is impossible to love, and to be wise. neither doth this weakness appear to others only, and not to the party loved; but to the loved most of all, e_cept the love be reciproque. for it is a true rule, that love is ever rewarded, either with the reciproque, or with an inward and secret contempt.

by how much the more, men ought to beware of this passion, which loseth not only other things, but itself! as for the other losses, the poet’s relation doth well figure them: that he that preferred helena, quitted the gifts of juno and pallas. for whosoever esteemeth too much of amorous affection, quitteth both riches and wisdom.

(5)。

this passion hath his floods, in very times of weakness; which are great prosperity, and great adversity; though this latter hath been less observed: both which times kindle love, and make it more fervent, and therefore show it to be the child of folly. they do best, who if they cannot but admit love, yet make it keep quarters; and sever it wholly from their serious affairs, and actions, of life; for if it check once with business, it troubleth men’s fortunes, and maketh men, that they can no ways be true to their own ends.

dream --- a word that has changed the world yes ,i would say so ,wouldn’t you

youth is a special life relay station ,the growth with the worry ,the life feeling become aware happily with the dream ,collected a unique youth melody in here .

we decide.we choose.and as we decide and choose,so are our lives formed.in the end, forming our own destiny is what ambition is about.and most importantly ,you are the one you choose to be.

it is easy to waste our lives ,our days ,our minutes .it is easy to e_ist than living .so hold fast to your dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird, that cannot fly.hold fast to your dreams, for when dreams go,life is a barren field, frozen with snow.

i hope you everyone he

my attitude towards to marks

for our students, marks is above everything. teachers will judge us from our marks. with marks we can be enrolled into junior middle schools. with marks, we can be enrolled into senior middle schools. with marks we can be enrolled into college. with marks we can be enrolled into postgraduate and doctrine studies. still with marks we can be graded and be allowed to go abroad for further studies. our parents will be strict with us with the marks. our society judge us from marks. however, sometimes we students compare one another with marks directly. we are completely controlled by marks. we like them and we feel sorry for them. but what attitude towards our marks should we take?

truly, marks functions cannot be underestimated. in terms of test in our study, marks are fair and real. that is the reason why we say "everyone is equal before marks. "

however, i think marks are the sole standard to judge the success or failure of students in e_ams. sometimes, marks more than ten or less than one or two in our e_ams comparing with others mean not everything. the success or failure in e_ams will be influenced by e_perience on the spot and the e_aminee’s health etc. once in a while one cannot fail in e_ams. " success or failure is common sense for military. " i think everyone is familiar with the famous saying. don’t you think such will be the case with our study? in e_ams, one cannot be " never-defeated general" . even though one will be very good in everyday study, he cannot succeed in every e_am sometimes. we can get proof from the fact that the very best one we call "number one scholar" in the entrance e_ams for college and ordinary middle school and specialized secondary school over the years is not eminent above all others nor top student in every study.

as a matter of fact, "high marks" and "ability" are not unified. some time ago, a new phrase " high marks but poor competence" came into being. once i happened to meet such a teacher as this .it is said that the teacher just graduated from a far-famed key university. but his teaching result is much less than that of the one who just graduated from a not-well-renowned college. when lecturing, the teacher only repeated what the te_t-books says, which was very dull so the his students’ interest in learning was not aroused. his teaching was short of unity of teaching and learning. at present there is a fact that we know a few brilliant and top college graduates are not qualified for their posts. the reason for it may be lack of the ability to combine knowledge learnt from books with pragmatics in their work. students of this kind will be successful in every e_am but they will be able to use freely their knowledge in their posts. don’t you think it waste training such persons for the country?

to sum up from the above, i can say marks are not absolutely authoritative for some. if we neglect training and developing the students’ ability and competence and if we only seek for the high marks, we will be absolutely wrong. we should take an objective attitude towards the marks. neither should we neglect them nor should we overvalue them like a god.
